We wrote these for the people who carry the responsibility rather than the people who hold the tools: building owners, managing agents, facilities managers, school business managers and landlords.
They answer the questions we are asked on site most often. How often does this need testing? Who is responsible if it is not done? What will an inspector or an insurer expect to see? Each guide gives the answer in the first paragraph, then explains the detail underneath.
Where the guidance comes from
Each guide points at the standard or regulation behind the answer, so you can check it yourself rather than taking our word for it. Between them they cover BS 5266 for emergency lighting, BS 7671 and the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 for electrical testing, and the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 for commercial boilers.
Standards and grant schemes change. We review the guides when they do, and each one carries the date it was last checked.
